This actually doesn't surprise me much. The pundits are quick to point out a few quirky features found on some Japanese or Korean phone, that the iPhone doesn't have (and some of them *are* good features!), but I can't help but think of...

Clamshell iBook videos

Not unable to run your hands over a clamshell iBook's smooth curves? Well, this is the Internet – what you can't touch, you can at least look at!

Steve Jobs iBook Intro, Macworld Expo 1999

If you watch one iBook video, let this be the one. A scruffy-faced Steve Jobs fills the empty "consumer laptop" quadrant of the Mac product matrix.

Steve Jobs iBook SE Intro, Macworld Expo Tokyo 2000

Or so it appears. Short, poor quality video; anyone have a link to better quality, or the whole Expo keynote?

Steve Jobs iBook FireWire Intro, Macworld Expo Paris  2000

It's the full keynote video; jump to 39:00 for the debut of the Indigo iBook, and the Key Lime and Graphite FireWire iBooks.

iBook-Change (commercial)

You think I'm being goofy when I call this machine "sexy"? Let Barry White set you straight.

iBook G3 (Clamshell) Ad - Love

Jeff Goldblum takes on the love angle. Sorry, Jeff; Barry owns that field.

iBook SE Ad

"The honor of your presence is requested at the marriage of power and elegance." Jeff Goldblum pitches Graphite.

iBook-iMac to Go (commercial)

Another Apple ad with a very happy Jeff Goldblum.

iBook-Attract Loop

Official Apple promo video? I don't know, but it's cool.

Reviewed: iBook G3 Clamshell

Why get your iBook tour from a dull talking head when you can let a Scottish (?) grade schooler do the job? A spirited review of a Blueberry iBook, from bootup to application use to "a wee look at the keyboard" and the innards. "Anyone who tells you Firefox is good in 10.3 is a nutter." "Sherlock – load of crap." You tell 'em, laddie!

iBook Clamshell Tour

Passable bedroom review of an Indigo 366 MHz Graphite iBook.

Re: iBook Clamshell Tour

Apparently a response to the above: Review of a 466 MHz FireWire Graphite iBook. Hacker tip within: Going beyond the stated maximum RAM requires a firmware update only available on OS 9.2.2, so you'll need to downgrade the OS, do the update, then upgrade the OS again. Plus, there's a hinted workaround to get iPhoto to work on the Clammy (instead of balking at the 800x600 screen).

iBook Clamshell Blueberry

Yet another home-made review. "Revision B" owner discusses durability and other features.

ibook-rev2

This is an eBay seller's video, but it's one of the better home-made productions, with info on upgrading and taking care of old iBooks, and a peek at in-action performance. And it's a hoot to see this guy's house full of Clammies, spread across sofa and floors like a strange little army.

iBook G3 Clamshell Airport Install

Just watch and follow along!

iBook G3 RAM Install (Part 2)

Watch and learn. (Ignore Part I; there the user tries to install the wrong stuff and fails.)

My secret... How to put "Leopard" on a G3 Clamshell

Spastic camera, annoying music – but if you want to try hacking Leopard (OS X 10.5) onto a Clammy, here's your guide. The risk is all yours!

Never ask what sort of a computer a guy drives. If he's a Mac user, he'll tell you. If not, why embarrass him?
